Soft Reboot 2024

Hi everybody! 2022/2023 was a very rough time for me, and as such, my writing kind of fell by the wayside. For years, too, I’ve been trying to get some sort of consistency — not helped by a number of hurdles, between big things (housing instability, my computer needing to be replaced) and comparatively-little things (Tumblr deleting my blog with no warning).

So, for 2024, I am doing a soft reboot of my Internet presence and platform! Here’s what that’s going to include.

1. Ko-Fi Subscription and Phasing Out Patreon

I’ve talked about leaving Patreon for a while now, but I’m finally putting it into action, and have set up monthly support on my Ko-Fi, over here. I’ll have both Patreon and Ko-Fi active for a while, but encourage my Patreon supporters to move over with me; after a few months, I’ll deactivate Patreon entirely. I’ll miss some of the features, but not as much as I’ll enjoy the relief of not being stressed every time they trend.

I’ll also still be offering supporter-only content, but to simplify my life and yours, there’s only one monthly tier. You can donate whatever amount you want, but it’s all the same thing – and I only have one set of content to worry about. You’ll get snippets of what I’m working on, from all my projects; previews of upcoming posts; and blog posts about particularly finicky bits of research.

2. Weekly Content

I’ve struggled for years to nail creating content on a regular basis; so I’ve created a schedule, based on the themed days that worked (until Tumblr deleted everything, grr) for me last year. Short posts based on worldbuilding and sharing content, with almost-daily updates. The schedule is as follows:

Magic Mondays: The magic of Elessa! One aspect or term gets discussed and defined, with a few in-world quotes to really flesh it out.

Travelogue Tuesdays: Locations, map points, and features of the Elessan map.

Word Wednesdays: One word from Kanet’valan, Tosaka, Dani’i Feilim, Fulengi or Shuyenge is defined and translated.

Theory Thursdays: Political posts and anarchist theory, whether macro, micro, or entirely scholarly.

Free Fiction Fridays: Free to read fiction and poetry, from all over the internet.

Serial Saturdays: Elessa chapters will be posted on Saturdays! This probably won’t kick in right away; I’m hoping to get the Saturdays up and running for February or March.

Sundays I’m keeping free for overflow, posting, etc. Most of these (ideally all of them) will be queued and posted ahead of time; I’ll be spending December working on them.

3. Website Clean-Up

I’ll be going through my website and cleaning up links, updating dates, services, etc. As part of this, I’ll likely be archiving a number of old posts, and taking down the old version of Bell Clock and Candle. If all goes well, I’ll be able to do a “relaunch” of it on January 1st, complete with the first Magic Monday post.

I think that’s everything for now! Please consider joining me on Ko-Fi; I’m excited to get back into the swing of things, and feeling good about the year to come. And keep your eyes peeled for the return of Bell, Clock and Candle: The Nowhere Bird.
